Initially, this project —funded by the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities— aimed to shed light on filmmakers Ruby and Marion Grierson through the materials kept in the archive devoted to their brother John at the University of Stirling. Only very little remains about them there. However, it is even more striking the fact that there is almost nothing kept regarding Margaret Taylor-Grierson, the main donor of the Grierson Collection. This site is devoted to showcasing these scarce materials while illuminating the meaning of their archival presence (and absence). Moreover, another woman’s name has been added to these list of overshadowed Griersons: Jane Anthony, the matriarch of the clan, whose personality and ideas are at the heart of the Griersonian contribution to documentary making.
